A gas storage unit heats a cylinder and keeps it hot. It delivers big volume quickly and copes when several taps open at once. The catch is standing heat loss, and once drained you wait while it recovers.
A continuous flow unit heats water only as it passes through. No tank to run dry and no standing heat loss. The limit is flow rate. Undersize it and the temperature drops when two showers run at once.

Gas line sizing comes first. A continuous flow unit burns far more gas at peak than the tank it replaces, and an undersized line will starve it. We check meter capacity and the pipe run, then upgrade it where needed. That is gas plumbing work.
Flueing and clearances matter just as much. Combustion gases have to discharge well clear of windows, doors, vents and eaves, and the unit needs the manufacturer's clearance for airflow. Internal units need a correctly built flue.
